Convicted Wife-Killer Traigo Andretti Admits To Murder Of Second Woman In Manitoba 9 Years Ago

The Canadian Press, 25 Aug, 2015 12:31 PM
WINNIPEG — A man who is already serving a life sentence for murdering his wife has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for killing another Manitoba woman nine years ago.

Traigo Andretti, who is representing himself, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Myrna Letandre as her family members wept in a Winnipeg court.

Justice Chris Martin called the killing "evil, vile and despicable."

He said Andretti shows little remorse for the crime and has very little chance for rehabilitation.

Andretti blamed his medication for causing him to strangle Letandre, slit her throat and then dismember her.

He apologized to her family but said it was, in his words, "very insufficient for the loss."

The new sentence is to be served concurrently.

Letandre, who was 37 and originally from the Fairford First Nation, was reported missing by her sister in 2006. Her remains were found in a Winnipeg rooming house seven years later.

Andretti was given a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for at least 25 years last year for the first-degree murder of his wife, Jennifer McPherson, who was also a longtime Winnipeg resident.

Police discovered the scattered remains of McPherson on a remote island near Alert Bay, off the east coast of Vancouver Island, in 2013. The couple had been living there as caretakers of a fishing resort called the Pacific Outback Resort.
