Conservative Riding Association In Winnipeg Says $95,000 In Money Is Missing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Dec, 2015 01:01 PM
WINNIPEG — About $95,000 has disappeared from a federal Conservative riding association in Winnipeg.

Documents filed with Elections Canada show the value of assets held by the Conservative electoral district association of Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia dropped sharply between 2013 and 2014.

The value went to just under $20,000 from about $115,500, with no expenses that would explain the amount.

Larry Ring, the riding association's chief executive officer, says the money is being recouped.

Ring says the matter is being resolved internally and has nothing to do with the riding's former member of Parliament, Steven Fletcher.

Ring would not provide further details or say whether the federal elections commissioner is investigating.

"We have made arrangements for it to be fully resolved by this summer," Ring said Friday.

"This is internal within our board, 100 per cent. It has nothing to do with past candidates or future candidates."

Fletcher was defeated in a bid for re-election in October by Liberal Doug Eyolfson. Fletcher has indicated he may run for the Manitoba Progressive Conservatives in a provincial election set for April 19.
