Congratulations pour in from political leaders in BC on King Charles coronation

Political leaders in B-C have issued congratulatory statements for the coronation of King Charles, with changes to the province's administrative Great Seal.

B-C Premier David Eby says in a statement that the coronation of Charles marks the first crowning of a Canadian head-of-state in seven decades.

The event marks --quote-- "an opportunity to reflect on the common interests and values we share."

B-C Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin and Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai have also issued congratulatory statements for the coronation, which took place at Westminster Abbey in London.

"On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate Their Majesties on this auspicious occasion. I look forward to continuing to support our Sovereign in his important work.

The Union of B-C Indian Chiefs, however, criticized the ceremony, saying it --quote-- "cannot participate in or celebrate a ceremony or system that has suppressed and oppressed First Nations rights in Canada."

Environment Canada says another winter blast is hammering northwestern parts of the province and is expected to hit the south coast before Thursday.
