Confrontation At Surrey's LA Matheson School Leads To Hit-And-Run, Teen Turns Himself In

IANS, 27 Oct, 2017 03:46 PM
Surrey RCMP say two young men were taken to hospital after incident at LA Matheson Secondary

Emergency crews were called to L.A. Matheson Secondary School at 94 Avenue and 122 Street around 5:30 p.m.

Police say surveillance video from the school shows several young men approaching a parked pick-up truck and a confrontation then follows. As a result of the pick-up truck fleeing the confrontation, two 19-year-old men were struck and injured.

They don’t attend the school and don’t know the other teen. One of them has significant but non-life threatening injuries.

“At this time no charges have been laid,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann. “It appears a minor confrontation escalated into a serious incident. The general public was not at risk. If you witnessed this event and haven’t spoken to police, investigators would like to speak to you.”

Surrey RCMP’s Youth Unit, General Investigation Unit, and Criminal Collision Investigation Team are all handling this file.

The teen who turned himself in is cooperating and police add the truck has been seized for forensic and mechanical examinations.

Although this is not technically a school-related incident, the Surrey School District has sent a letter home to parents advising of this incident as it occurred on school property.

Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS.
