A Surrey high school is about to boost its classroom space in a big way.

The province says it will invest 78.6-million-dollars on a four-storey addition to Fleetwood Park Secondary School.

The new expansion will add 800 student seats and is set to include a neighbourhood learning centre, an Indigenous learning and meeting space as well as a space for child-care.

The addition is expected to be ready for students in 2029.

The Shetland Creek wildfire destroyed at least 20 structures, six of which were homes in the Venables Valley in the days after the blaze was first reported on July 12. The fire is still classified as out of control and has burned 280 square kilometres of forested land on rural properties on the western side of the Thompson River.
