Vancouver city council has approved changes to zoning in select areas of the Cambie Street corridor that it says will make it easier and faster to build up to 16-hundred townhouses.
This change will allow applicants to proceed directly to a development permit application for townhouses in the approved areas.
Mayor Ken Sim says the move has the potential to save from 10 to 12 months of processing time for those building more family-oriented housing in the same corridor where the subway line is being built.
The city says staff are continuing to identify areas in the corridor eligible for similar zoning changes, and will be reporting back to council.
