Cinar Co-Founder Ronald Weinberg Gets Nine-year Sentence For Fraud

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Jun, 2016 12:47 PM
MONTREAL — The co-founder of the Cinar animation company has been given a nine-year prison term for his role in a $120-million fraud case.

Ronald Weinberg's sentence was handed down in a Montreal courtroom this afternoon.

Crown prosecutor Matthew Ferguson was seeking the maximum penalty of 10 years, while Weinberg's lawyer had told the judge she thought a more appropriate sentence would be five years.

Two former financial advisers are also being sentenced today after a jury convicted the three men earlier this month.

Cinar created popular children's shows such as "Arthur'' and "Caillou.''

The fraud occurred between 1998 and 2000.
