Chopping Choruses: Calgary radio station promises more music with edited songs

The Canadian Press Darpan, 08 Aug, 2014 04:27 PM
CALGARY - An Alberta radio station is promising listeners twice the music by cutting song times in half.

The station, 90.3 Amp (CKMP) in Calgary, changed to a format called QuickHitz one week ago.

Its owner, Newcap Radio, calls it a first for a radio station in Canada and perhaps the world.

Spokesman Steve Jones says a few stations in the United States have adopted the short song strategy on a part-time trial basis.

He says there has been both good and bad reaction to the Calgary station's switch.

Calgary singer Jann Arden vented on Twitter that the station is messing with art and asked if anyone could recommend half a good book to read.
