Chinese Premier Calls For New Golden Decade Of Trade Between Canada And China

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Sep, 2016 11:24 AM
MONTREAL — Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is calling for a new golden decade of Canada-China relations.

The premier told a luncheon in Montreal today the two countries have no excuses to create what he called a win-win cooperation in order to more than double the trade between the two nations over the next ten years.

Li was speaking at an event hosted by the Canada China Business Council alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard.

The Chinese premier says the fact he has visited Canada so quickly after Trudeau's trip to China last month demonstrates how rapidly relations are progressing between the two countries.

Li says China is serious about strengthening the country's rule of law as well as intellectual property protection and welcoming more Canadian investment.

On a lighter note, the Chinese premier also praised the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, of which he said he is a big fan.

Earlier Friday, Li attended an event with Canadiens alumni and young hockey players at the Bell Centre.
