Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan officially begins his role as Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP

Richmond RCMP are pleased to welcome Chief Superintendent Dave Chauhan as the new Officer-in-Charge. Chief Superintendent (C/Supt.) Chauhan officially assumed his role as Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP on May 2, 2022.

We are pleased to welcome C/Supt. Chauhan to Richmond. Our Senior Management Team is looking forward to working collaboratively with C/Supt. Chauhan in our continued effort to make Richmond the safest community to live, says Superintendent Julie Drotar. Supt. Drotar has been acting as the Officer-in-Charge of Richmond Detachment during the transition in leadership.

C/Supt. Chauhan’s appointment as Officer-in-Charge was first announced by the City of Richmond on March 9, 2022.

I am honoured and thrilled to have been chosen as the new Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP and am excited to officially begin in my new role, says C/Supt. Chauhan, I am looking forward to leading a remarkable team of officers and municipal staff and building on the excellent public safety initiatives and member wellness programs put in place by my predecessor, Assistant Commissioner Will Ng.

Prior to assuming his role as Officer-in-Charge of Richmond RCMP, C/Supt. Chauhan was the acting Officer-in-Charge of the Lower Mainland Integrated Teams which included IHIT, the Integrated Emergency Response Team, Integrated Forensic Identification Service, Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, and the Integrated Police Dog Service.

Victim of Saturday's shooting in Maple Ridge identified as Darr Khunkhun, IHIT looking for suspect vehicle

The victim is being identified as 41-year-old Darr Khunkhun from Maple Ridge. Darr Khunkhun does not have a criminal record. The shooting appears targeted, but its connection to the Lower Mainland gang conflict remains to be determined.

Visually impaired elderly man punched in the stomach by stranger: VPD

The 69-year-old victim, who was wearing a bright yellow high-visibility jacket and walking with a cane, was walking through the crosswalk at Thurlow and Alberni around 11 a.m. on March 31, when he was punched in the stomach by a stranger. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. The victim did not suffer physical injuries.

Kartik Vasudev who was only 21 was shot dead outside a skytrain station in Toronto. He was going to hop on the bus to head to his part-time job. The family was able to confirm the death on Friday afternoon but don't know the motive behind the shooting.
