Charges Withdrawn Against Man Accused Of Threatening Father Of Rehtaeh Parsons

The Canadian Press, 02 Jun, 2015 12:02 PM
HALIFAX — Charges have been withdrawn against a Nova Scotia man who pleaded not guilty to charges of uttering threats and criminal harassment in a case involving the father of Rehtaeh Parsons.

Crown attorney Eric Taylor said in Dartmouth provincial court today that the evidence didn't support the threat charges, so there was not a reasonable prospect of a conviction in the matter.

The man cannot be named because he was a minor when he and another teenager were convicted of making and distributing child pornography involving Parsons.

The judge placed him on a one-year peace bond that restricts him from having any contact with Canning or the Parsons family.

Glen Canning has said the charges relate to online threats he alleges were made against him last year about a YouTube video.

Parsons' parents say their daughter was cyberbullied and died after a suicide attempt in 2013.
