Charges Possible Against A Burnaby RCMP Officer After Robbery Suspect Shot: B.C. Police Watchdog

The Canadian Press, 22 Jun, 2018 03:35 PM
SURREY, B.C. — British Columbia's police watchdog has sent a report to the provincial prosecution service for consideration of charges against a Burnaby RCMP officer.

The Independent Investigations Office was called in after a robbery suspect suffered an apparent gunshot wound during an arrest in March 2015.

The office investigates all police-involved deaths and serious injuries across the province.

The identity of the officer involved has not been released.

The office says in a news release that its chief civilian director has reviewed the file and forwarded a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service, but no details have been released on potential charges.

The prosecution service must now determine whether there is a substantial likelihood of conviction based on the evidence gathered by investigators, and if prosecution would be in the public interest.
