A 56-year-old man has been charged after a fatal crash near Trail, B.C., in October 2022 that killed a mother of four and injured her children. 

BC Highway Patrol says Terry Jackson faces three charges, including the most serious allegation of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Police say the head-on crash involved Jackson's pickup truck and a Chevrolet Traverse driven by a 34-year-old woman travelling with her four children. 

Officers say in a release that all five in the Traverse were taken to hospital after the crash, but the mother "tragically passed away" and the children were treated for serious injuries before being released. 

Highway patrol says Jackson was charged after an extensive investigation by police. 

The accused is due in court on Feb. 29 in Rossland, B.C.

A first group of 20-25 Canadians looking to flee Gaza was able to leave on Tuesday, Global Affairs Canada has confirmed, as the government works to evacuate the rest of its citizens from the besieged Palestinian enclave.  Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly had confirmed earlier in the day that some Canadians had successfully departed.

An immigration agent, accused of cheating several Indian students of tens of thousands of dollars by issuing fake college admission letters to procure study permits to Canada, has denied charges against him. Brijesh Mishra, who has been under arrest in a British Columbia jail since June, said he has been scapegoated by dozens of international students from India, the Toronto Star reported.
