  • Charges approved against B.C. RCMP officer

An RCMP officer in British Columbia has been charged with breach of trust in connection with the duties of his office, criminal harassment and forcible entry.

The prosecution service says the charges involve allegations of misconduct against two individuals between January 2017 and May 2020 at or near Trail.

A court has placed a publication ban on the names of the targets of the alleged misconduct.

Const. Steven Murchie was charged July 3 and his next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 17.

The prosecution service says in a statement that the charges were approved by a senior Crown counsel with no connection to the officer.
