LANGFORD, B.C. - RCMP on Vancouver Island say a 27-year-old man has been charged with one count of second-degree murder following a slaying in Langford, B.C.

An unnamed woman was found dead in a home during a wellness check on Dec. 31.

A statement from the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit says the suspect was charged the following day.

He remains in custody and the statement says he is due to appear in Western Communities provincial court on Jan. 20.

Sgt. Chris Manseau said in a release issued on Jan. 1 that police believe the attack was an isolated incident.

A motive has not been released, but Manseau said the victim and accused knew each other and the public was not at risk.
