Card Skimmers Found At 2 Canada Line Stations, Transit Police Warn

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Jul, 2018 12:02 PM
Metro Vancouver Transit Police are investigating the discovery of debit/credit card skimmers located at two Canada Line stations.

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, alert Canada Line staff discovered debit/credit card skimmers in Compass Vending Machines (CVM’s). Two skimmers were located in CVMs at Vancouver International Airport Station and one skimmer in a CVM at Vancouver City Centre Station.

The skimmers were located in the late afternoon. It was determined that the skimmers at Vancouver International Airport Station had not been in the CVM’s prior to Sunday’s service. The time of placement for the Vancouver City Centre Station has yet to be determined.

The skimmers are undergoing forensic analysis and, at this time, it is unclear whether or not any card data was obtained.

Out of an abundance of caution, all customers who used their debit or credit cards in the CVM’s at one of those two stations on Sunday, July 8, 2018, from the start of service until 5:00 pm the same day, are asked to check with their financial institution to ensure their cards have not been compromised.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are continuing with this ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time.
