Car Crash Knocked Out Power For 2000 People In Surrey And North Delta

    Surrey RCMP is advising the public of a road closure following a motor vehicle collision that occurred on July 25th, 2019 in Surrey.


    On July 25th, 2019 at approximately 0244 Hours, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision in the 11900 block of 96th Avenue in Surrey.


    A 1997 Honda Accord was travelling westbound on 96th Avenue when it went off road and struck a utility pole. The subsequent collision resulted in the vehicle sustaining significant damage and has impacted the delivery of power and communication utilities servicing the area.


    The 24 year old male driver of the Honda Accord was transported to local area hospital in stable condition with non life threatening injuries.


    Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision. The incident is still under investigation.


    A road closure on 96th Avenue between 118th Street and 120th Street is in effect and is expected to last several hours while utility crews work to restore service in the area.

     

    Motorists are requested to avoid this area during their commute and are reminded to exercise caution while travelling through the nearby area which may experience power interruptions impacting the operation of traffic control devices such as traffic lights.
