Canadian Referee To Take Charge Of Women's World Cup Quarter-Final

    VANCOUVER — Canadian referee Carol Anne Chenard will take charge of the Women's World Cup quarter-final between Germany and France in Montreal on Friday.
     
    Italy's Carina Vitulano will referee Friday's other quarter-final between the U.S. and China in Ottawa.
     
    Chenard, an Ottawa native, previously was the lead official in group games between Germany and the Ivory Coast, England and Colombia, and Brazil and Spain.
     
    She is a former short-track speedskater for Canada who has six World Cup medals and once held the world record in the 3,000 metres.
     
    Chenard, who also has a PhD in microbiology and immunology, works for the federal government in Health Canada.
