Canadian Man Faces DUI-Related Charges Following 4-Vehicle Crash In Florida

The Canadian Press, 09 Dec, 2015 11:59 AM
DANIA BEACH, Fla. — A Canadian man has been arrested on six DUI-related charges following a four-car crash in Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol tells the Sun Sentinel that 40-year-old Martin Bessette, of Saint Cyrille, Que., was driving a vehicle Monday morning when he  noticed a line of cars ahead of him stopped at a red light.

Authorities say he rear-ended one car, causing a chain-reaction crash involving two additional vehicles.

Troopers say Bessette was found walking around the car without his shirt and shoes.

His girlfriend, 31-year-old Melaine Menard, was trapped in the wreckage.

Paramedics freed her from the passenger side of the car and took her, Bessette and two others to a hospital.

Menard was placed in the intensive care unit in serious condition while Bessette and the other two people involved in the crash were treated and released.

Bessette's bond was set at $20,000. It isn't clear if he has an attorney.
