Canada Post Mail Carrier Seen On Video Munching Pilfered Tomatoes

The Canadian Press, 13 Jul, 2018 12:48 PM
MONTREAL — Canada Post says it has spoken to a Montreal mail carrier who can be seen on video on four separate days pilfering tomatoes from a hanging basket outside a home.

Spokesman Jon Hamilton says in an email to The Canadian Press the corporation has apologized to the customer and that the employee's behaviour was not appropriate.

CTV Montreal broadcast footage from a security camera showing the mail carrier munching away on the fruit on four separate days — June 29 and July 3, 5 and 9.

Resident Paula Habib told the TV network she initially thought squirrels were responsible for the larceny.

She said she would forgive the mailman if he replaced the plant or dropped off some tomato sauce.

Hamilton says Canada Post has spoken to the employee but will not be offering further comment.

Habib, meanwhile, called the postman's behavior "rude."

"He never came to the door and said, 'Look, I took one of your tomatoes and it was really good,' or made a joke about it," she said. "He was just doing it and couldn't care less."

The network said the mail carrier was even spotted helping himself to a neighbour's strawberries.
