Calgary's Elementary School Evacuated Over Carbon Monoxide Fear, 15 Children Taken To Hospital

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Nov, 2015 11:48 AM
CALGARY — An elementary school in Calgary has been evacuated over fears there may be a carbon monoxide leak.

A fire official says several music students in the band room at Woodlands Elementary School in the city's southwest complained they were feeling ill.

The school was evacuated as a precaution and 15 students were assessed by paramedics at the scene, all of them between eight and ten-years-old.

A caretaker reported hearing a carbon monoxide alarm and a 911 call was made reporting a possible leak.

"The classroom was evacuated and now the whole school is evacuated, approximately 260 students," fire spokeswoman Carol Henke said Wednesday.

"They are being housed in Calgary transit buses to keep them warm."

Henke said she didn't know if any students were taken to hospital.

The Calgary Fire Department, its hazardous materials team and emergency medical services were on scene.

    Atco Gas was investigating.
