CALGARY — The Calgary Zoo says its 30-year-old Komodo dragon has died.
Loka came to Calgary in 2014 from Toronto’s zoo and received veterinary care as a geriatric animal.
The zoo says the female dragon had shown signs of deterioration over the past 10 days as her appetite faded.
Officials say she was the oldest of her kind in captivity.
The zoo say Loka has many offspring living in other zoos.
Currently there are an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 dragons left in the wild and are listed as a vulnerable species.
