Calgary Senior Accused In Wife's Death To Undergo Another Month Of Testing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Nov, 2016 12:10 PM
CALGARY — An 85-year-old man accused of murdering his wife appeared confused and agitated as he made a brief court appearance today.

As sheriffs ushered him into the room, Sigfried van Zuiden asked whether he was in court

He said that he had not committed a murder in all his life and that he could not believe what was happening.

A 30-day psychiatric assessment was ordered at van Zuiden's previous court appearance a month ago.

At that time, a psychiatrist said he believed Zuiden was suffering from a moderate to severe case of dementia and had little understanding of the situation.

Van Zuiden is to undergo another month of testing at a forensic psychiatry centre and is next to appear in court Dec. 2.
