  • Calgary man pleads guilty to animal cruelty; taped shut mouths of dog and cat

CALGARY — A Calgary man has pleaded guilty to two charges related to animal cruelty involving a dog and cat that had their mouths taped shut.

Nicolino Camardi has been in custody since he was arrested in May.

The animals, who were found in an alley last January, had both been strangled, beaten and starved.

The Crown wants a pre-sentence report and a psychiatric review because of the — quote — "abject horror" of the crimes.

The defence lawyer says his client has been behind bars long enough.

Court hear that Camardi had acquired the animals online
