Calgary Gas Station Worker Maryam Rashidi Dies After Trying To Stop Driver In Gas And Dash

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 10 Jun, 2015 11:13 AM
CALGARY — A Calgary gas station worker has died of injuries she received when she tried to stop two people in a stolen pickup truck from driving away without paying.

Police confirm that the 35-year-old woman died in hospital.

She gave chase after the gas-and-dash at a northwest Calgary Centex station and stood in front of the truck to try to block it from leaving.

She was hit and carried along on the hood before she fell off and was run over.

The truck, which was stolen, has been recovered.

Police said late Tuesday that two persons of interest were being questioned in the case but no charges had not yet been laid.

They took one youth into custody at a home in the city and then surrounded the home for four hours until a second male emerged.

Ashtiana Rashidi, also known as Maryam,  and her family immigrated to Canada from Iran about a year ago. She had just begun work at the gas station.
