B-C Ferries wants customers to prepare for a busy Labour Day weekend.
The company says advanced bookings for the holiday weekend show high passenger and vehicle volumes heading from the mainland to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands today through Saturday, with high eastbound traffic expected from Sunday to Monday.
Those travelling without a confirmed booking are strongly encouraged to travel as foot passengers, with standby vehicle spaces extremely limited.
B-C Ferries says more than 15-hundred round trips fleet-wide will sail this weekend.
Prince George Mounties say they've made an arrest in a suspicious death of a woman found on Tuesday. Mounties say a 22-year-old woman died during a home invasion which they believe was a targeted incident.
The fireworks competition gets underway tomorrow with road closures expected as a result in the West End and neighbouring Kits Point. Tomorrow night's competition will see fireworks displays from a team from Australia.
Mounties say the male suspect brandished a handgun during the robbery then quickly fled the area before officers arrived. Police in Nanaimo say a 24-year-old man has died of his injuries after a crash with a suspected impaired driver. Nanaimo R-C-M-P say the crash happened around 10 p-m on Wednesday, and the other driver remains in hospital.
The regional government says reservoir levels remain normal for the season, but water consumption is trending higher than the same time last year. It says water consumption peaked on July 5th with 1.56 billion litres used, even though it wasn't a day designated for watering lawns.
