Burnaby RCMP Investigating Cyclist Collision In Same Location As Fatality

Darpan News Desk, 19 Jan, 2018 01:21 PM
Burnaby RCMP is investigating a collision in the 7200-block of Cariboo Road involving a cyclist. This is the same location where a pedestrian was fatally injured yesterday

On Thursday, January 18th at approximately 9:10 a.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a cyclist hit by a vehicle. The cyclist was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This is the fifth collision involving a pedestrian or cyclist that Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services has responded to in the last two days.

It is still early in the investigation and investigators have yet to determine what caused the collision but this is a stark reminder to pedestrians and cyclists that it can be extremely dangerous when sharing the roadway with vehicles.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and speak to Burnaby Traffic Services.

As highlighted in relation to yesterday’s fatal collision, police see a spike in collisions in the fall and winter months because of the shorter daylight hours and poor weather. Burnaby RCMP urges pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to remain alert in low light and wet weather conditions.

Pedestrians should wear reflective clothing, use crosswalks and intersections, make eye contact with drivers when crossing the street. Pedestrians shouldn’t assume a driver has seen you therefore make sure the vehicle is going to stop before stepping out onto the roadway.
