A Burnaby man has been sentenced to five years in prison for trying to smuggle a Glock-style handgun and two prohibited magazines into Canada.
Canada Border Services Agency says Russell Major was stopped at the Peace Arch Border Crossing in Surrey and a secondary search found the items.
The agency says in a statement that Major was convicted in Surrey provincial court last month on charges, including smuggling, making false statements and importation of a prohibited firearm.
Nina Patel, the agency’s regional director general in the Pacific region, says the sentence should be a strong deterrent to anyone thinking about bringing firearms into Canada.
