Burnaby Man Charged With Murder After Woman's Body Found Near Mission

Darpan News Desk, 01 Apr, 2016 11:00 AM
VANCOUVER — Homicide detectives say information from the public helped in the quick conclusion of a murder investigation in the Fraser Valley near Mission, B.C.

Human remains of a woman were found on a forest service road near Stave Lake on Tuesday.

A charge of second-degree murder was laid two days later against Burnaby resident Ryan Anthony.

He appeared in provincial court on Thursday and also faces one count of indignity to a human body.

Anthony was ordered to return to court April 21.

"An important piece to this investigation was the support of the public who came forward with information that has aided in the rapid progression from initial investigation to charge approval," said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

"The victim has been tentatively identified," she said. "However, confirmation is being sought through an autopsy."

IHIT believes the slaying was targeted and that the victim knew her attacker.
