Body Of Woman, Car Recovered From Lake Ontario In Toronto

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 28 Oct, 2016 01:23 PM
Toronto police pulled a woman's body and a car from Lake Ontario on Friday after the vehicle veered across traffic and hit a guardrail before plunging into the water.

The crash took place Thursday afternoon but efforts to find the car and driver were unsuccessful at the time, despite help from a cyclist and another Good Samaritan who dove into the lake, Const. Clint Stibbe said.

The cyclist was taken to hospital to be treated for hypothermia but has since been released, he said.

Recovery efforts began Friday morning and police were able to collect the body around 10 a.m., he said. The woman's name has not yet been released.

The car, which Stibbe said had sunk to the bottom of the lake, was recovered shortly before noon.

It's unclear what caused the crash and police said their investigation continues.
