  • Body of missing hiker found after three-day search in western Alberta

Mounties say the body of a hiker has been found after a three-day search in western Alberta.

They say the death isn't believed to be criminal.

The hiker's vehicle was located in the Coral Creek staging area near Nordegg, Alta., shortly after the 55-year-old was reported missing Monday.

Police say helicopters, search and rescue volunteers from Rocky Mountain House and emergency personnel from Kananaskis began searching the area on Tuesday.

The hiker was found Thursday about 12 kilometres from the vehicle.

The body has been sent to the medical examiner's office.

The British Columbia gold rush town of Barkerville is drenched, both from overnight rains and sprinklers dousing its timber buildings, some more than 150 years old. It's part of an effort to save the historic park that is one of the Cariboo region's premier tourist attractions from the flames of the Antler Creek wildfire that is burning out of control about three kilometres away, said Stewart Cawood, Barkerville's public programming and media manager.
