Body of Canadian journalist found in Cambodia forest

Darpan News Desk IANS, 01 May, 2014 10:57 AM
  • Body of Canadian journalist found in Cambodia forest
Cambodian police Thursday discovered the body of 58-year-old Canadian journalist and author Dave Walker who has been missing since Feb 14 in Siem Reap city, national police spokesman Kirt Chantharith confirmed.

"The badly decomposed body was discovered Thursday morning by boys who were picking fruit in the jungle of Angkor Thom temple complex," Chantharith told Xinhua over telephone, adding that the body was located about 300 metres in the forested area from the temple entrance.

"Police have not concluded the cause of the death," he said. " At the request of the Canadian embassy in Bangkok, we have cordoned off the area with police tape as we wait for the arrival of a Canadian forensic expert, who will examine the body Friday."

The spokesman said a friend of Walker has confirmed that the body is that of the journalist because he recognised the clothes that Walker was wearing while he disappeared.

Walker was in Cambodia to work on a documentary film. The journalist went missing after leaving his guest house in Cambodia's tourist town of Siem Reap Feb 14.
