Body Of 65-Year-Old Canadian Found Floating In Gulf Of Thailand: Media Reports

The Canadian Press, 12 Jun, 2015 11:28 AM
PATTAYA, Thailand — Local media reports say the body of a 65-year-old Canadian man who disappeared after renting a boat earlier this week has been found in the Gulf of Thailand.

The Bangkok Post and the Chiangrai Times say the man has been identified by his Thai girlfriend as Jean Caroche.

The newspapers report that police found Caroche on Thursday floating face down in the water off Koh Lan, an island near the resort town of Pattaya.

It says his girlfriend, 31-year-old Alusa Sondee, told police he rented a boat in Pattaya on Tuesday but never returned to shore.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in Thailand, but would not confirm the person's identity due to privacy concerns.

The department says consular officials at the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok are in contact with the deceased's family.
