Bob Dhillon’s Mainstreet Equity Offers 100 Apartments to Victims of Devastating Fort McMurray Fire

The Canadian Press, 04 May, 2016 01:36 PM
Alberta-based Mainstreet Equity today offered 100 apartments with at least 3 months of free rent for victims of the devastating fire which has created a state of emergency in Fort McMurray.

The suites are located in Calgary, Edmonton or Saskatoon, where Mainstreet has apartment units available.

Announcing the donation, Mainstreet Equity founding CEO Bob Dhillon said, "When we heard about the fire in Fort McMurray, the first thing we did was look at our vacancies to see how many units we have available. I hope the rest of Canada will join us in helping the citizens of Fort McMurray who are in need of assistance."

"Mainstreet is responding to appeals from Prime Minister Trudeau and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley for Canadians to help the victims." says Mr. Dhillon, "We here at Mainstreet do not consider this an act of charity. Assisting people and families during a natural disaster is a responsibility, one that every single person at Mainstreet is glad to accept and offer help in any way we can."

In 2011, Mainstreet offered 50 Edmonton apartment suites to victims of the Slave Lake forest fire in Alberta. The Corporation also recently offered 200 apartments in Western Canada for Syrian refugees. To date, more than 165 units are occupied with some 700 refugees.

Mr. Dhillon said, "When Syrian refugees needed accommodations last year, Mainstreet offered help. Today, the people of Fort McMurray need our help, right here in the headland of Alberta."
