Blue Jays Hashtag Trends No. 1 Worldwide On Twitter During Alds Victory Over Rangers

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Oct, 2015 12:42 PM
TORONTO — Jose Bautista and the Toronto Blue Jays were on top of the world Wednesday night, and so was their #ComeTogether hashtag.

Bautista hit a three-run home run as Toronto beat the Texas Rangers 6-3 to advance to the American League Championship Series. The victory saw their hashtag trend No. 1 worldwide on Twitter.

#ComeTogether was on the individual top trend list in 39 countries and 179 cities around the world from Monday's Game 4 win in Arlington, Texas, through to Wednesday's decisive Game 5 victory.

The surge in online popularity saw the Blue Jays official Twitter account surpass the Toronto Maple Leafs as the most followed professional sports team in Canada.

Game 5 helped the Blue Jays (1.05 million) move ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies as the third-most followed team in MLB, behind only the New York Yankees (1.51 million) and Boston Red Sox (1.13 million).

During Game 5, Bautista earned the most mentions of any Toronto player, with over 180,000 tweets about him. Designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion was next with more than 31,000 mentions.
