  • Blaze breaks out at Coquitlam townhouse complex

COQUITLAM, B.C. — Residents of a Coquitlam townhouse complex are displaced after a fire that ravaged three homes and sent two people to hospital.

Fire Chief Wade Pierlot says the blaze broke out at about 6 p.m. Monday and two people suffered minor burns.

He says the residents of five homes on the same block (of Riverbend Drive) had to spend the night elsewhere as crews dealt with the fire.

Pierlot says three middle homes are severely damaged and it might be a long time before occupants are able to return.

He says the two homes on the outer sides are less damaged and those residents will likely be able to reoccupy shortly.

Pierlot says the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but appears to have started near a garage. (News 1130)
