Bitcoin scam in North Vancouver

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Sep, 2024 04:11 PM
  • Bitcoin scam in North Vancouver

Mounties in North Vancouver are warning the public about an extortion scam involving bitcoin after receiving multiple reports over the last two days.

Police say it involves scammers who claim to have compromising photos of the victim and demand to be paid in Bitcoin with the threat of sharing the images.

R-C-M-P say the scam usually begins with an email saying the victim has been looking at adult content online and claiming malware has taken their photo.

The scammer provides a photo of the victim's house along with their name and date of birth as part of the threat, although police say the four recent victims didn't comply and immediately reported the incidents.
