B.C. Woman Killed On Vancouver Island After Being Pinned By Falling Tree

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Jul, 2018 12:44 PM
CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. — A British Columbia resident has been killed by a falling tree on Vancouver Island.

RCMP in Campbell River say it happened Tuesday afternoon as the 57-year-old woman was hiking on the Ripple Rock Trail, 17 kilometres north of the city.

A news release from the detachment says the Williams Lake resident was hiking with her daughter when the tree came down across the popular trail.

First aid was immediately provided by the victim's daughter, who is a nurse, and an ex-military medic who was hiking nearby.

But police say the impact of the tree "left no hope for survival."

The BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation.
