B.C. Woman Killed After Her SUV Slid Off Highway 97 Into Okanagan Lake

The Canadian Press, 05 Jan, 2016 01:09 PM
SUMMERLAND, B.C. — A 42-year-old woman from Summerland, B.C., is dead after her SUV slid off Highway 97 and tumbled into Okanagan Lake.

RCMP say the woman was driving on the lake-side highway between Penticton and Summerland when the accident happened.

Passing motorists stopped to help until first responders arrived and removed the woman from the vehicle, but police say she died later in hospital.

Another driver's dash-camera footage has helped the RCMP investigation into the crash.

Police say investigators have determined the woman was travelling below the posted speed limit just before she lost control of her 2004 Honda CRV.

A large dump of snow and recent mild temperatures have created extreme winter conditions locally, and police are reminding drivers to ensure vehicles are equipped with proper winter tires.
