B.C. warns drivers of snow and possible freezing rain in southern Interior

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Nov, 2023 05:20 PM
  • B.C. warns drivers of snow and possible freezing rain in southern Interior

The British Columbia government is warning drivers about a storm bringing snow and possibly freezing rain as it bears down on the province's southern Interior.

A statement from the Ministry of Transportation says wintry conditions are expected to last until Thursday afternoon, when a transition to rain is forecast.

It says travellers should be prepared for highway closures on short notice.

Environment Canada has issued freezing-rain warnings for the Coquihalla Highway starting at the summit north of Hope, as well as the Okanagan Connector between Merritt and Kelowna, and Highway 5 between Hope and Princeton.

The warning also spans the South Thompson, Similkameen and Nicola areas.

The weather office says freezing rain is more likely to develop over higher elevations.

The province's traveller information service, DriveBC, has also issued an advisory due to a forecast of freezing rain and snow along Highway 20 in the central Interior.
