BC smuggler convicted

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Aug, 2024 12:34 PM
  • BC smuggler convicted

A failed plan to smuggle hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine to Vancouver Island has resulted in a conviction in Seattle for an American man.

A jury in U-S District Court found John Sherwood guilty of conspiracy to distribute drugs, possession of drugs and conspiracy to commit international money laundering in the April 2021 scheme.

The jury heard he set off from Olympic Peninsula in Washington state and planned to use a Jet Ski and an inflatable raft to haul the goods across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but the plan unravelled and bags of drugs were found on three U-S beaches.

The F-B-I traced the duffels to a Walmart where they determined Sherwood used his debit card to buy the bags.
