B.C. Police Watchdog Launches Investigations In Chilliwack, Surrey

The Canadian Press, 08 May, 2018 10:51 PM
VANCOUVER — British Columbia's police watchdog has sent investigators to probe two separate incidents where women were taken to hospital following run-ins with Mounties.

The Independent Investigations Office says in a news release that RCMP were called Sunday about a dispute over a stolen vehicle in Chilliwack.

They say a conducted energy weapon was deployed during the incident and a woman subsequently fell down some steps.

She was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and investigators are now looking into the case.

The office is also investigating after RCMP in Surrey reported that a woman who was being held in a jail cell was found in medical distress on Monday morning.

They say an ambulance took the woman to hospital in critical condition.

The Independent Investigations Office probes all police-involved deaths and serious injuries across B.C.
