B.C. motorcyclist dies after crashing into car, falling onto highway

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Jun, 2024 02:29 PM
  • B.C. motorcyclist dies after crashing into car, falling onto highway

Police say a motorcyclist is dead in a crash Wednesday that snarled morning traffic for Metro Vancouver commuters.

A statement from the RCMP says the rider drove into a car then fell onto the roadway and was critically injured by the rear wheels of a semi-truck.

Police say the truck driver didn't remain at the scene of the crash on Highway 99 near the George Massey Tunnel in Delta, B.C.

They say patrol officers were searching for the truck driver who may not have been aware of what had happened.

The Mounties say highway patrol responded to the call at about 6:15 a.m. and they're asking any witnesses or people with dash-camera footage to call them.

A B.C. highway camera looking north towards the tunnel Wednesday afternoon showed a long line of cars on Highway 99 before the crash location.

A  parliamentary motion on the Israel-Hamas war the House of Commons passed Monday could make it harder for people seeking asylum in Canada to get out of Gaza, Immigration Minister Marc Miller said Wednesday.  He said it could make the situation worse for a Canadian program that has already been, in his words, a "failure."
