VANCOUVER — A lawyer for a woman who is accusing serial killer Robert Pickton's brother of sexual assault and threats says a jury must send him a message that his alleged actions were wrong.
Jason Gratl has delivered closing arguments in the civil trial where his client is suing David Pickton for compensation for the sex assault he was convicted of in 1992 and for unproven threats of rape and murder.
Gratl says that in the 24 years since the assault, the woman has lost job opportunities, suffered post-traumatic stress disorder and has been hospitalized for mental breakdowns.
He says an employee and friend of Pickton's threatened the woman would be cut into pieces if she didn't leave town after Pickton groped her at a construction site where they worked.
Gratl says Pickton's refusal to admit that he has been convicted of sexual assault shows he does not know right from wrong.
Robert Pickton was convicted in 2007 of six counts of second-degree murder, but David Pickton has never been accused or charged in those crimes.
