B.C. Man Who Secretly Recorded Teenage Stepdaughter Given Jail Time

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 17 Apr, 2015 01:10 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A British Columbia man who used his cellphone to secretly record videos of his 15-year-old stepdaughter changing has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Court heard the man — who cannot be named to protect his victim's identity — downloaded a program on his phone to make it act as a motion-detecting camera and set it up in the teen's bedroom.

The 36-year-old man pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops on Thursday to making child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Court heard Canadian authorities were tipped off after German police traced a suspicious IP address to a North Kamloops residence.

Mounties executed a search warrant on the home in September 2013 and seized one computer and one cellphone.

Court heard a number of video files were found on the cellphone among family photos.

Investigators also found 17 child-pornography photos, plus another 28 photos that had been deleted.

Crown prosecutor Catriona Elliott said three different videos showed the teenage girl in various stages of undress.

"In these videos, you can see this teenaged girl, both her front and her back, naked."

In addition to the 18-month jail term, the accused must also register as a sex offender.

He had no previous criminal record.
