B.C. Man James Bonnell Charged In Shooting Deaths Of Two Dogs That Killed Chickens: SPCA

The Canadian Press, 12 Sep, 2015 02:36 PM
ELKFORD, B.C. — Animal cruelty charges have been laid against a man after the shooting deaths of two dogs in Elkford, B.C.

The SPCA investigated and alleges that James Bonnell shot a two-year-old female Labrador-cross and an eight-year-old female Rottweiler/shepherd cross in May.

The agency says the dogs were shot after they entered Bonnell's property and killed several chickens.

The SPCA alleges witnesses saw Bonnell put the dogs in his truck and drive them out of town, where they were shot.

Special Const. Jeremy Irons says the evidence contradicts the assertion that the dogs were killed with lawful excuse, a defence under the Criminal Code.

Bonnell is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Oct. 1 in Sparwood.
