The Canadian Press, 20 May, 2016 10:28 AM
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Authorities say a man from Nanaimo, B.C., tried to bribe his way out of trouble at the U.S. border with Canada.

Charges say the man was caught crossing the border with marijuana and shotgun shells.

The Bellingham Herald reports Brian James DeCoteau, 52, has been charged with bribing a public servant, a class B felony, in Whatcom County court.

Prosecutors say he offered an officer two C$100 bills to look the other way and let him cross the border at Sumas on Monday.

DeCoteau owns a landscaping business on Vancouver Island.
