B.C. Liberals Reject Nomination Bid From Former Cabinet Minister Terry Segarty

The Canadian Press, 13 Oct, 2016 12:39 PM
CRANBROOK, B.C. — A former Social Credit cabinet minister in British Columbia won't get another crack at provincial politics as a Liberal.

The party's candidate approval process has rejected an application from Terry Segarty to seek the Liberal nomination in Kootenay East.

Segarty, who represented the area in southeastern B.C. from 1979 to 1986 and served as labour minister, says he doesn't know why his application was rejected.

He says he passed criminal record and background checks, and he would allow the Liberal party to make those details public.

The B.C. Liberal party constitution says decisions of its candidate approval subcommittee are final and cannot be appealed.

Candidates David Wilks and Tom Shypitka are seeking the Liberal nomination in Kootenay East next weekend, and the two rivals say they have agreed to work together, no matter which one represents the riding. (CHBZ, CFSM)
