B.C. Judge Hands Former NHL Player Rudy Poeschek Jail Time, Fine For Assault, Driving Charges

The Canadian Press, 15 Sep, 2015 12:44 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — A former NHL tough guy has been handed a conditional sentence, 45 days in jail and a $1,500 fine for separate assault and driving offences.

Rudy Poeschek pleaded guilty in May to one count of assault and three charges of driving while prohibited connected to incidents that took place last year in Kamloops and Merritt, B.C.

Poeschek played for the New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues over a 12-season career that ended in 2001.

He had six goals, 25 assists and 817 penalty minutes.

A judge in Kamloops handed Poeschek the six-month conditional sentence for assault and also banned him from driving or consuming alcohol for the same period.

The 45-day jail term for the driving offences will be served intermittently.
