BC hiker missing since 14 days

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 21 Oct, 2024 04:37 PM
  • BC hiker missing since 14 days

Mounties in northeastern B-C say "extensive resources" including police dogs have been deployed in the search for a man who has failed to return from a 10-day camping trip in a remote provincial park.

R-C-M-P say Sam Benastick's family reported him missing on Saturday, after he didn't come home from the trip to Redfern-Keily Park, about 250 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John.

They say Benastick started his hike on October 7th, his last update to his family was the following day, and he was supposed to return last Thursday.

The Mounties say Benastick is an avid hiker and camper, leaving for the trip with a tarp, a black Osprey backpack with red strings and other supplies -- and anyone who has has visited the Redfern-Keily Park area since October 7th is asked to contact the Northern Rockies R-C-M-P detachment.

Canada makes small emissions cut in 2023, but must ramp up to hit key targets: report
Hikes to oil production and rebounding air travel put a drag on Canada's climate progress last year, a report published Thursday by a leading policy institute found, though the country was still able to make a modest cut to its planet-warming emissions. The new estimates from the Canadian Climate Institute show Canada cut emissions by about 0.8 cent last year compared to 2022, or eight per cent since 2005.
